Students grievances over centenary.
Fort Hare Alice students say they were not intending to
disrupt the centenary celebrations but they wanted the management to attend to
their problems. Yesterday night students gathered in front of Jabavu Hall to
pave a way forward, in the meeting students agreed that they will close the
entrances in the campus. The SRC was given a court interdict not to be seen with mass gatherings, but
rival political organisations promised to take the baton and lead the
struggle. The 14 students that were
arrested last week are due to appear in court today. An SRC member posted on
Facebook yesterday that the president of
Zimbabwe and Fort Hare alumni Robert Mugabe promised to pay for all the
damages that werecaused by the students.
